Scouts by John Gloz

My dad was in the Capt Hurley Rover Crew very early in its existence, I'm not sure if he would have been counted as one of the founding members. Dad's involvement with the crew included helping with pre-fabricating the original Mt Erica ski hut (J. W. McMahon Ski Lodge), but he never actually made a trip up Mt Erica with the crew of his time.

KEVIN BROGAN - MAYOR OF YALLOURN

Helen Hender and I think Kevin Brogan should be made a belated Mayor of Yallourn - if he doesn't know someone or some event, it didn't happen!! Julie

Does anyone remember the story about a ritual where men danced naked near the Power Station?

A story that hit the headlines in the paper in the early 60's - a guy in the West Camp died in his unit. When it was being cleaned up, they found a cat of nine tails and other "implements" along with film and tape recordings. On the film there was evidence of a group of men that danced naked around a fire in the hills accross the road from the Power Staion, heading up to Yallourn North. The nasty part is there was a dead body involved - it was an elderly lady who was the housekeeper for the Catholic Parish Priest in Trafalgar.

Small cardboard badge from the "G.S.C." for a bonfire held in 1953. Does anyone know what "G.S.C." stands for?

Yallourn Hotel Beer Glass

Relationship

This 'pony' sized beer glass with the "Yallourn Hotel" monogram etched into it has another more interesting side to it. The initials "G.D.B." that's also etched into the glass stands for George Dixon Brown, the original licensee of the hotel. Those that don't remember George would probably remember or heard of "Ma Brown", George's wife who took over the license of the hotel after George died. It took me some time to find out what the initials "G.D.B." stood for but thanks must go to Pat Widdows for helping out in identifying it.
