Bus Ticket - date unkown - Yallourn Bus Terminal Broadway Bus Terminal

A bus ticket from Yallourn Passenger Service PTY LTD, Prop. A.Maxwell. Date unknown but dad said that Mr Maxwell started the very first passenger service for Yallourn residents and was eventually taken over by Latrobe Valley Bus Service? I don't know what the "Renwick Pride" refers to at the bottom of the ticket?? I'm guessing that the 1920's truck/bus pictured at the Yallourn Railway Station in one of the pix may have been Mr Mawell's? I wonder if people can access or do a search of old companies that were PTY LTD?

C V Cook Yallourn Watch Specialist Jeweller Memorabilia Memorabilia

Mr Cook was the first jeweller to have his own shop in Yallourn when a few were built in I think the early fifties, maybe late forties, between the National Bank and the picture theatre. Prior to that time, there were very few shops other than the SEC run General Store.

I am not sure that my watch came in this box which my parents gave me, I think for my 18th birthday. As it was a surprise, Mr Cook sent a selection into the National Bank (where I worked) on the pretense of it being for someone else, so I chose it not knowing it would be for me.

Presumably the Army & Navy sponsored my mother and I would suggest it was taken in one of the halls.
My mother would have been 15 at the time. To her right and slightly above looks to be her sister VERNA WITHERS nee Puckeridge and immediately to her right is her youngest sister ENA WITHERS nee Butler. The man in uniform on the right was probably the local policeman.

David Apps - approx 1960 - on the slopes of Mt Erica sitting in an ex-stock car with a 38 Ford V8 motor cobbled to a truck gearbox. It was used for a bit of sport on the forest tracks in the area. This was probably the last time it was driven as the engine had seized coming back down the track, the car had spun three times when the back wheels locked and that is a look of relief on the driver's face since, most surprisingly, the car stayed on the road.

This is the Demolition of the Yallourn Power Station E2 boiler house. The Demolition was kept quiet so that the public would not gather on mass to watch.
I think the authorities were concerned about the large amount of Asbestos that would escape into the air.
