Dear former Yallourn residents and Virtually Yallourn users,

I am a filmmaker and University lecturer based in Sydney and I am writing with a request for images from Yallourn, particularly in its period of transition / demolition.

The film I am making a film called ‘First Person Kodachrome’. The film has a section on Yallourn but overall it not directly about Yallourn – it is a documentary focused on memories of slide shows and my family’s slide collection. The Yallourn sequence is a digression in the middle of the film where I talk about Yallourn and a slide show on Yallourn, I saw conducted by former Morwell resident and Carlton footballer , Ted Hopkins.

I was in touch with Julie George earlier in the year and she put me in touch with Colin Nash and Rob Morgan, who both kindly provided some images for me.

Since this time, I have completed the editing of the film but I still need to locate the owners of some of the images I’d like to use, in order to seek their permission and make sure all is fine for copyright purposes.

The images that I am interested in using are titled: ‘Jeeralang Crescent, 1980’; ‘Last Day pool open 1979- Christie Gordon in wading pool’; ‘LaTrobe Avenue from interesection of Mount Street’; ‘Looking down Tanjil Place from intersection of Tanjil Crescent 1983’; and ‘Group viewing demolition of Briquette factory- McGoldrick Collection’. These images are in the section of the Virtually Yallourn website called ‘Events’ / ‘Demolition’.

If I am unable to locate the copyright owners of the above images then there are several other images on your website I could use instead of them. These are also from the ‘Events’ / ‘Demolition’ section of the website. Their titles are: ‘28 Tanjil after house removed’; ‘Driffield Road 1980’; ‘Erica St, 1980’ ; ‘ Gone Erica St – taken from Coach Road’ ; House Removal Grant Fowler 1-3; and ‘McGoldrick -17 Reservoir Road, en route to Paynesville 1980’( a truck towing a house).

I am also interested on using one of Nicholas Telehus’ photographs showing two trucks with a house on their trays, split in two, ready for relocation. (This was printed in a book by Prue McGoldrick called ” Yallourn Was…”)

So, if you took any of the above photographs, or are able to put me in touch with anyone who may have taken any of the above, If anyone had a contact address or email for Nicholas, I’d be interested in this too. then please contact me via email: andrew.taylor @uts.edu.au

Thanks in anticipation and I hope to hear from you soon,

Regards,

Andrew
