HEATHER MCKAY FROM YALLOURN WINS A BICYCLE
Heather McKay, from Yallourn, made the front page of the ‘Morwell Advertiser’ newspaper in 1952. Heather won a bicycle for collecting the most pennies in charity drive for local hospitals. The article was headlined ‘Health Minister ~Here Friday.’

“FRIDAY will be a big day in the life of nine year old Heather McKay of Yallourn. At 2.30 p.m. at the office of Mr. F. R. Raggatt (secretary of the Latrobe Valley Hospital and Health Services Associations) in McDonald Street, she will be presented with a bicycle by the Minister for Health Hon. W.O, Fulton. M.L.A..
This gift, donated by Mr. Keith 'Milner, is her reward for the effort in raising £10/2/5 in pennies during the recent Million Pennies Appeal. This amount was the largest raised by an individual in the drive throughout Latrobe Valley District schools.
Mr. Fulton will visit Yallourn on Friday morning, and Morwell in the afternoon and interviews by representatives of responsible organisations can be arranged with him through Mr. Raggatt.”
