Anonymous - this article was shoved under my door by person(s) unknown! and relates to a famous episode that occurred towards the end of 1967 in the new classroom wing at YHS. I note with disappointment that another famous episode that of Don Chalmers 'woody' MiniMinor, somehow finding its way into the corridor and surrounding itself with lockers, did not get a mention. Perhaps the incidents are not connected. Preface: We Liked High School So Much, We Went Twice! In 1958 (building) things were happening at Yallourn Primary, so the powers that be didn't want to distract the young things of Grade three and, knowing how clever they were anyway, shipped them off to Rooms 18 & 19 at High School to further their education. And what an eye-opener it was for the nearly one hundred pupils and their two teachers, Mr. Wilson & Miss Ballard. There were all these really BIG people there, lots of bushes to run and hide in (strictly out of bounds of course) along the Latrobe Avenue fence, everybody wore UNIFORM AND HATS, strange sights and smells -EVERYTHING WAS SO DIFFERENT! (Oh except for the rooms they occupied, they were really just the same as our old Grade two rooms down the road, -dreadful!) Well we lasted at High School for about half the year and suddenly it was all (sob) over. Back to Primary School and our Brand New Rooms! Three and a half years later most of us returned for the duration.
