Memories Resident Family House

It was a great place to grow up - very safe for kids and everybody knew you. Used to play at the park a lot, plus over the road at the railway line. We used to get under the bridge when a steam train caome and had smoke billowing all around us. Also loved to go to the taddy hole to catch tadpoles over near the brickworks. We had so much freedom as kids, spent all summer holidays at the pool. Went to the matinee every Saturday afternoon 2/- to get in with sixpence to spend. I could go on, but everyone who has lived at Yallourn knows what I mean - also very safe to walk home in the dark when my sister used to take me to the night time pictures and walk home (I used to feel so grown up!).

1961 - Helen Hender in her new dress which was made from the leftovers of Sandra Ryan's deb dress (made by Helen's mum, Marjory). "It was really stiff material and I remember wearing it to Sunday School and this boy sat down next to me and said “move that fat dress over” and pushed it along the chair. Marjory also made a bride doll outfit out of the leftovers from Lorraine's deb dress and I still have the said bride doll but she is looking a bit like "Mrs Haversham" as the dress material is now starting to deteriorate - will it is nearly 52 years old!!"....Helen

This is different to the house when we lived in it. We had a sleep out attached to my bedroom and we had a kitchenette behind the kitchen wooden stove. Plus it was reversed the lounge being on the left side and parents bedroom on the right.
