Can anyone tell me please who were the House Captains in 1973 for Mawson and Flinders?

House Captains - Yallourn High School YHS

The Honour Boards from Yallourn High School are now situated at the Brown Coal Mine Museum in Yallourn North.

There are two missing names from 1973 and our friends at the Museum are hoping someone can fill in the gaps:

The legend of Highland National Dancing and pipe band in and around Yallourn was created by Mrs Emmy Law. In 1935, Mrs Law arrived as a bride and commenced teaching Highland National Dancing, also the bag pipes followed by the pipe band. In 1991, 55 years on, Mrs Law was still teaching with as much success as always, with Alison Coupe holding Victorian Championship for Highland Dancing for the past 3 years. George Looby - Yallourn Football Club YFC

DEATH OF GEORGE LOOBY
1922-2014

Former Yallourn footballer George Looby passed away on 27th August 2014. George was a skillful defender for Yallourn FC and was listed as one of the Blues’ best players in the club’s historic win over Morwell in the 1948 Grand Final at Trafalgar. George then went on to play in the premiership team at Traralgon and then played with Hazelwood FC.

In the photograph of the 1948 premiership team, George can be seen sitting next to Jimmy Shaw in the front row.

Geoff Taber - Yallourn Football Club YFC

The Latrobe Valley Express (16 October 2014) recently carried the news regarding the passing of former Yallourn footballer Geoff Taber. Geoff played at Yallourn FC after the war and is one of twenty-eight players' names that are listed on the 1948 ‘souvenir’ premiership flag. It is believed that Geoff was a ruck man for Yallourn in those days.

Geoff was later cleared to Moe Football Club where he gave long and loyal service as a committee member.

A NIGHT OF ACTION AT YALLOURN
The story on the Virtual Yallourn website, written by Winton McColl in June 2015, regarding amateur boxing in Yallourn, prompted a search of local newspapers. Several articles related to boxing were found including the following report regarding a program of events conducted by the Yallourn Boys’ Club in 1954.

The Free Library Movement of Victoria was formed in 1937 and within a short space of time, the community of Yallourn had not only fully embraced the idea of ‘free loans’ (except on fictional titles) but had become the pace-setter in public library borrowings throughout the State.
