Jean Hattam wrote: Dances were held in the Fire Brigade hall and the Army Drill hall - Scotch nights, debutante balls etc and what a grand night was had by young and old. There were pictures held at St John’s Church run by Mr Parry and at St Therese’s by Mr Philips. Around early 1939, the theatre opened – what excitement…ushers in uniforms and so other picture shows ceased.

St John''s Church on Friday nights was the place to go from late 40's for dances, Trixie Spicer , Claude Warren later Dick Winter were the piano players and their bands provided great entertainment for years.
