Roger Spaull, I just want to tell you how much I appreciate your effort ( as I'm sure many others do ) in bringing us some history of the Yallourn Football Club. You have done a lot of research and compiled easy to read articles. Alec Shaw got a mention in your latest composition, I'm proud to say that he is married to my Aunt Ann ( Boag ). As kids we loved to ride push bikes from Yallourn to Ann and Alec's farm near Yinnar, 15 miles each way mostly on dirt. Sometimes we slept in their haystack overnight. Alec taught me to drive his tractors and showed us what dairy farming was all about.

One funny note on the soccer. In about 1957, Colin Ellis’s dad came up to Yallourn Primary School one assembly and told us there would be a pie night, free soft drink and cartoons at the Soccer Club. It was the most exciting thing I’d ever heard, so I joined the Soccer Club and played for a couple of seasons.

The Yallourn Football Club started pre-season training but they had no juniors, they were all playing soccer, so they put on a pie night! I couldn't believe my luck! The pies were great!
