The Country Swimming Championships were held at Mildura in 1965. The Gippsland District Swimming Association chartered two planes to fly Gippsland Swimmers to Mildura (from Essendon). The plane in the picture carried the Yallourn Team and Officials and some of the Morwell Team and Officials. The picture was taken by a Mildura Newspaper when we arrived at Mildura Airport. On appointment to the position of Electrical Operations Superintendent, Yallourn in November 1960, the solid brick house at 25 Hillside, on the corner of Maiden Street, was allocated to Kathleen and myself and our two children, Paul and Warwick. It was interesting to move into the house across the road as an adult with a family of my own from the one I had left in 1942 (No 26). While in Yallourn, there were two further additions to the family, Janet and Martin. In 1961 or 1962, we won a prize for Most Improved Garden in the town. The family moved from 25 Hillside when I resigned in early 1965.

I came to Yallourn in 1932 aged 1 with father Howard and mother Florence. Dad was appointed Principal of Yallourn Tech that year and we were allocated a weatherboard house. To accommodate a growing family and be more appropriate to dad's position, we moved to 29 Latrobe Ave in 1934.

When Mr John (Power Station Chemist) and Mrs McMahon moved to Melbourne, the Beanland family moved to 26 Hillside.
