My mother Iris Sutton was relocated here as a widow (which was the practise). Mrs Garvin, the widow of her engineer husband, lived next door but one to the west. Mrs McAllister was next on the West and Mrs Densby was on the East side. She was also widow also of a salaried staff member. It seems they didn't mix the wages staff housing with the salaried staff housing!!!!! Very English class system perhaps.

Iris left in 1969 to move to live in Warragul with her daughter Geraldine and her husband.

The Sutton's moved from here to 8 Tanjil Place - they loved being up on the hill. Iris loved walking.

This was next but one to where the magnificent Yallourn Theatre was built. Ted and Vera Anderson were neighbours, and Cuff's on the other side. I was born to that house, but it had been built on an undrained swamp and was condemned, I understand we were always unwell. The land was drained, the house raised and refloored, but in the mean time my parents, Ralph and I had been relocated to 45 Narracan Avenue, 1929 - 30 and they loved being on the hill and so they did not return to the house near the shopping centre, Iris enjoyed her walks with the kids.

Notice the coal dust and Asbestos dust from the demolition. The dust erupted up into the air and traveled towards the crowd, who quickly departed.

Sorry about the blurry photo, the explosion scared the bejesus out of me.

This is the Demolition of the Yallourn Power Station E2 boiler house. The Demolition was kept quiet so that the public would not gather on mass to watch. I think the authorities were concerned about the large amount of Asbestos that would escape into the air.

Paul Vincent YHS 1962 - Yallourn Fountain - wrote in 2004 - I was driving to Glenmaggie Weir one day and, lo and behold, a Yallourn fountain was spotted, sitting in a private garden in Heyfield! Yes, it even works and has the original copper lights still mounted inside (although the centre pole is now painted white). Was unable to speak to the property owner, as they were out, but will be returning to find out how the hell it was transported there!

D'Alterio Family leased the shop in 39 Centre Way which was registered as "D'Als Foods" and was also know as "D'Alterio's Cafe" or the "The Cafe" from 1967 to 1973. The D'Alterio family purchased the business from Len & Mary Auchettl and when we left approximately 12 - 18 months after dad (Lou) died, the business was purchased by Rob and Jill Martin.

Lou D'Alterio extended the business by taking the shop area well back into the rear storage area and created a fresh vegetable area.

Sent by John Evans: Julie, this is an interesting evaluation of John monash's second great achievement!

Soon after, General Monash gained a small but decisive victory at Hamel. It was important for the tactics that Monash used. A combination of infantry, air support, tanks and artillery that had not been used before.

This became the blueprint for the Battle of Amiens, on 8 August, ‘a black day’ for the German army according to General Ludendorff.

Robert (dad) was the deputy head at Yallourn State School and Dorothy (mum) was a maths teacher at Yallourn High School. She ultimately became deputy head at Oakleigh HS and played the lead female role in a number of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas played by YHS to raise money for the school. John went to YPS from 1952-56 and David went there from 1948 (he started when he was 4) until 1953 - he was taught in Grade 6 by his father, Robert. He then went to YHS until 1956 and was taught mathematics by his mother, Dorothy. Bronwyn went to YPS from 1955-56.
