When Geraldine was 17 years old they moved to 8 Tanjil Place. A Split Level Home which they loved. My parents won the "Home Beautiful Gardens Award " on a number of occasions. While we were there my brother who had long finished his Electrical Apprenticeship joined British Petroleum as 1st Officer on a Tanker, and while in the Navy attained his Mechanical and Electrical Degrees. Plenty of time to study while at sea. He also attained a Shipping Pilot's Qualifications.

Maintenance by SEC (dependent relationship). Open fire then Wonderheat. Wood stove then electric cooking; ice box then refrigerator. Radio then TV; outside dunny then sewerage. Local corner stores and, of course, the picture theatre etc. Learning about boundaries in society; SEC staff versus workers; bosses versus unions; catholics versus protestants; fences between neighbours etc. Father's retirement (Richard Gould Sullivan) after 50 years at SEC.
