John - I was born in Yallourn in Nov 1942, Dr Andrew's baby, and lived at the Band Hall on the east side of the briquette factory for a few years until my sister, Judy, arrived. Then it was off to 42 Banksia St in about late 1944. Mum & Dad (Bill and Joyce) lived there until mid 1970 when they purchased a property in Morwell.

It was a great place to grow up - very safe for kids and everybody knew you. Used to play at the park a lot, plus over the road at the railway line. We used to get under the bridge when a steam train caome and had smoke billowing all around us. Also loved to go to the taddy hole to catch tadpoles over near the brickworks. We had so much freedom as kids, spent all summer holidays at the pool. Went to the matinee every Saturday afternoon 2/- to get in with sixpence to spend.
