The Latrobe Valley Express (16 October 2014) recently carried the news regarding the passing of former Yallourn footballer Geoff Taber. Geoff played at Yallourn FC after the war and is one of twenty-eight players' names that are listed on the 1948 ‘souvenir’ premiership flag. It is believed that Geoff was a ruck man for Yallourn in those days.

Geoff was later cleared to Moe Football Club where he gave long and loyal service as a committee member.

The 100 metre high chimney of the Yallourn Briquette Factory "lived" for three hours longer than planned. The chimney, once Australia's tallest, was felled at 1:56pm on Saturday, 21 June, 1975.
