Wonderful time to grow up. We spent hours playing with the neighbourhood kids. We were never indoors. We had our cubby houses and always found plenty to do. Houses were never locked. Mr & Mrs Andrew had a farm and we visited them a few times before they finally moved from Yallourn to the farm. Back then, when we had visitors, mum would spend hours preparing supper. It was never just biscuits. This is how it was in those days.

We had a view over the Ampol service station to Hazelwood. We used to watch for snow on the Jeeralangs during winter. The town service bus used to come by to take me to primary school. The bush across the road was always great to play in; we built several billy carts to race down the big hill there. Across the road from Mrs Dicks shop in Erica St were the Malpasses, Magnusons and Hutchinsons. My sisters worked at Wakefields shop near the kindergarten, opposite Browns. Very happy memories of this house and my neighbours. We were good friends. Also my friends were Beverley Dunstan and Margaret Bell.

Big vegetable patch and plenty of fruit trees - 2 plum trees and 1 fig tree. Built a sleep-out, then when we moved took the sleep-out wth us. Had an air-raid shelter then filled it in. A great place to live.
