When Bill and Betty Hebb left the town, Alison and Ron McPherson moved into their house, we were then next door neighbours. We had moved from 16 Erica Street to 17 Reservoir Road in 1966. This brick veneer house was stripped of its bricks and the frame divided and moved to its present site in Paynesville in 1979 when Val and Prue retired there. Val died in 2006. Prue continues to live in the house with all its memories of their Yallourn days.

Val, a senior engineer, and Prue McGoldrick, with their infant sons, Jim and Bernard, moved to 16 Erica Street in 1951. Subsequently Anne was born in April 1953. Damien followed in 1955; both the latter were born at the original Yallourn hospital near the open cut. Drs David Phillips and James Moore Andrew were their doctors.

I attended Yallourn High school whilst at this house; went to Presbyterian Church; was in numerous concerts and choirs; was in Guides; went camping with friends; followed Yallourn Football Club; played tennis, netball, softball. Had a recurrence of my previous illness and had to spend some time in bed at home. I remember being late for school and running/riding bike up the steep path beside Strzelecki Road – what an effort. I worked at Yallourn Public Library between Jan 1954 and Jan 1957 and helped move from old site to new building across the square.
