Many memories, but one sticks in my mind. New Years Day 1939 - we had been to Inverloch in Max Field's bus and on returning, found the bushfire that had threatened the town had burnt up to our back fence (no houses in Strzelecki Rd then); also our terrier had been bitten on teh nose by a snake and he did not survive. Immediate Neighbours - A Stevenson and Stan Sutton Nearby Neighbours - Sam French, Bill Armstrong, Bill Houston, O'Connor family

Joan and myself moved into 11 Tyers Ave in Sept 1963 - newly married. This house was supplied to my employer - State Bank of Victoria - for use by their staff. We had a car fridge, card table and 2 borrowed chairs and a mattress on the floor for the first month, waiting on our new furniture. Joan was a theatre nurse at the Yallourn Hospital and on call, so we got a phone - marvellous!! Our neighbours were Allan & Effie Humphreys, the Clayton's, Sally & Bill Bendle and later on, Don & Joy Francis and their family. We moved to Newborough early 1970s.

We lived opposite the kindergarten and playground. Had a grand prix billy cart track down Uplands Rd, from Strzelecki Rd down to Parkway. Yallourn was a great place to grow up in - every facility was close to hand. Also played "test cricket" in Broadway West outside Broberg's house each night. A happy life here. Although I moved out in 1948, my parents lived here till approx 1960. Dad had a good vege garden and champion flowers (Dahlias). Spent great times with Beryl Cameron and we are still great friends after 82 years! Playing football over the garage with the Lobley boys...Lawrie Baker from over the road taught me how to ride a 2-wheel bike at 5 years old. All the kids around used to walk to Primary School together after it opened in 1930.

First residents in this house. We were near the bush and had many picnics. Excellent garden back and front. My father worked very hard on the garden. His effort made it like a showcase (the front). There was a large vegie garden and fruit trees. It was up a very steep hill. There was a bus service which we did not utilise....Lesla Immediate neighbours - Austin & Tulloch families Nearby neighbours - Roberts; Patterson

3 Bedrooms, kitchen, large lounge/dining room, bathroom, long passage way, back porch, laundry & toilet. Copper in laundry for 'boiling' clothes. SEC only used certain colours to paint houses - our kitchen in pale green and the rest in cream. Washing day - mum would bring in white sheets covered in coal dust. Dad always had a bonfire for Guy Fawkes - all the kids in the street came - it was a wonderful time. In the early days, maintenance was always done regularly on house.
